Leopard killed in Royal Suklaphanta Wildlife Reserve

female leopard was found shot to death in Royal Suklaphanta Wildlife Reserve last week. She was about 7 years yrs old. Initial reports show that the leopard was killed by 6 to 7 gunshots across the temporal region. Locals recovered the dead leopard near the bridge along Majgaon-Babatal Route and reported the event to the Reserve Staff. According to Park officials, the shots were probably fired in self defense.

Gunshot injuries have claimed another male tiger along the same area in RSWR in the past.

Illegal trade in wildlife is on the rise in western Nepal with trade links to China through Dadeldhura,Darchula sector. Earlier, two cases of leopard skin seizures were made in Dadeldhura and Mahendranagar respectively.
