Nepal participates in CMT Travel Trade Fair in Germany

Honorable Assistant Minister for Industry; Commerce and Supplies; Mr. Rajesh Kaji Shrestha addressed a press conference organized in city of Stuttgart on January 18; 2006 to update the tourism trade situation of Nepal. The Press Conference was jointly organzed by Nepal Tourism Board; Honorary Royal Nepalese Consulate General in Stuttgart and Nepal German Chamber of Commerce and Industry coinciding with Nepalese participation in Caravan; Motor and Tourism (CMT) Travel Trade Fair which is being held in Stuttgart from January 14 to 22; 2006.

Addressing the press; Hon. Asst. Minister requested the media and the friends of Nepal to join their hands in our initiatives taken for establishing its traditional tourism glory. He said that His Majesty's Government of Nepal is always positive in liberalizing the rules and regulations regarding the foreign direct investment and other key tourism activities in Nepal. Tourism in Nepal has been playing the catalyst role in alleviating the poverty and fostering international fraternity; religious and cultural harmony. The role of tourism in Nepalese context is more appreciative in terms of its trickle down effects embracing the grass root people; he said.
Mr. Reinhold Messner; the famous mountaineer and the goodwill ambassador of Nepal; delivering the keynote speech on the occasion stressed on the need of peace and stability in Nepal for the tourism development. Addressing the gathering of 20 top leading tourism journalists from the state of Baden-Wuttenberg; Germany; Mr. Messner said that Nepal has huge tourism potentiality and it is the outstanding and fascinating tourist destination in the world because of her varied tourism products.

H.E. Dr. Madan Kumar Bhattarai; Royal Nepalese Ambassador to Germany highlighted on the strong relation between Nepal and Germany. He stated that in spite of the untoward incidents both nationally and internationally; every year thousands of German tourists have spent their fantastic and enjoyable holidays in Nepal.

Mr. Michale Scott; Managing Director of Hauser Exkursionen; one of the biggest Nepal selling tour operators in Germany said that Nepal; in spite of the internal conflict; is safe tourist destination. He shared with the Press the memorable and happy experiences of his clients to Nepal. He said thousands of his clients who went to Nepal for holidays and adventure brought back fantastic memories and which had further encouraged them to promote Nepal as an attractive tourist destination.

Mr. Kishore Raj Pandey; Vice Chairman of Nepal German Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that though Nepal is suffering from the internal conflict for the past many years; not a single tourist has been harmed.

The situation in the major tourist spots in Nepal is always favourable and tourists have been enjoying their visit to Nepal.

Mr. Rohini Prasad Khanal; Officer; Tourism Marketing & Promotion showed a multimedia presentation on major tourism highlights on Nepal.

Hon. Asst Minister; Mr. Shrestha presented a token of appreciation to Mr. Messner on the occasion.

The program was also attended by Mr. Rohini Thapalia; President of NGCCI; Mr. Pralhad Kumar Prasai; Minister Counsellor at Royal Nepalese Embassy in Germany; Mr. Dil Gurung; Honorary PRR of NTB in Germany and Mr. Punya Prasad Neupane; Joint Secretary at MOICS. Mrs. Ann Katrin Bauknecht; Honorary Royal Nepalese Consulate General in Stuttgart moderated the program.

Mr. Messner along with the Hon. Minister and other Nepal delegation also visited Nepal Stall at CMT. Nepal stall was full of visitors who received the postcards with his signature on them. The books written by Mr. Messner were also exhibited on sale in the stand. Nepal tea was offered to the visitors while Messner remained in the Nepal stall for his signing the books and postcards.

Earlier on the opening day of CMT on 14 Jan 2006; the VVIP team from Stuttgart visited Nepal stand. Mr. Kishore Raj Pandey on behalf of NTB and NGCCI presented the gifts of wooden windows to Mr. Guenthner Oettinger- Chief Minister; Dr. Wolfgang Schuster Lord Mayer of Stuttgart; The Minister of Tourism of the state of Thuringia; Germany; and Mr. Cromer Chief of Messe Stuttgart. The other delegation team were presented Nepal Caps.

Five Nepali private tourism companies are participating in the Fair which is being jointly organized by NTB; NGCCI and Honorary Royal Nepalese Consulate General in Stuttgart.

Meanwhile; Honorary Royal Nepalese Consul General in Stuttgart with the support of Stuttgarter Volksbank organized a Nepal Evening with Mr. Reinhold Messner` at the lobby of Volkbank on 18 January 2006. The program which lasted for 2 hours was attended by around 350 people comprising dignitaries from the state of Baden Wuttenberg; representative from minitries in Stuttgart; leading journalists from national and regional newspaper in Germany; friends of Nepal and supporters; German Investors in Nepal; Consuls and Consul General representing various nations in Stuttgart and the people who have connections in Nepal.

Mr. Reinhold Messner who delivered a speech with his powerpoint presentation for almost 1 hrs 45 minutes about his long experiences of mountaineering life. He said that he always wanted to invent new way of climbing the mountains to bring the minimum impact to the mountain and make the expedition less expensive. Mr. Messner also spoke about his long attachment with Nepal and his charity programs for the overall development of mountain life in the region.
